The City of Surrey's Canada Day celebration, the largest in western Canada, is set to be better than ever this year.
“The entire City looks forward to Canada Day in Surrey,” said Mayor Dianne Watts. “This year’s party has something for everyone, including two concert stages, rides and games for families, and an amazing fireworks display. I'm excited to see everyone there!”
Over 100,000 people celebrated Canada's birthday in Surrey in 2011, and this year's party is expected to be even better. The 145th birthday bash will offer fantastic free entertainment, great food, family-friendly activities all day and a fireworks display to close out the night.
"Every year, Canada Day grows and highlights Surrey's incredible community spirit," said Councillor Hepner, Chair of the City’s Parks, Recreation & Sport Tourism Committee "Our event teams and volunteers are putting the finishing touches on this year’s event which will have something for everyone. At the same time, we’d like to extend a big thank you to our generous sponsors from our business community which includes Coast Capital, Chevron, and CTV."
This year's event has over 590,000 square feet of entertainment and family activities. During the day, check out the popular Global FMX freestyle motocross show, the kids' matinee, the Peak Performance Project stage showcasing musical talent from around the province, rides and games from Shooting Star Amusements, and local crafts and great food in the marketplace. In the evening, musical performances from Jordan Cook, Hannah Georgas and Sam Roberts will lead into the big fireworks finale.
Walking, biking, and taking transit are all great ways to travel on July 1st. Visit the Surrey Canada Day website www.surrey.ca/canadaday for tips and directions.
Surrey Canada Day will take place Sunday July 1st at the Cloverdale Millennium Amphitheatre located 176th Street & 64th Avenue. The event is free to the public. Gates open at 10:00 am with the fireworks show slated for 10:15 pm.
