Community Celebrates Grand Opening of Expanded Fraser Heights Recreation Centre

Surrey, BC- The community celebrated the official opening of the newly renovated and expanded Fraser Heights Recreation Centre on Saturday, May 5th.
“The new addition will allow us to enhance and expand programs and in the growing community of Fraser Heights,” said City of Surrey Mayor Dianne Watts. “Through the Build Surrey program we are investing in new recreation amenities in each of our town centres in order to provide more opportunities for families to keep healthy and active.”
This multi-generational facility has been upgraded with a new 17,000 square foot addition, expanded multi-purpose room space, enhanced pre-school space, an additional gymnasium, and a 6,500 square foot fitness centre. The newly added state-of-the-art equipment is adaptable for novice to elite athletes as well as older adults. Building features include spectacular natural wood ceilings, natural lighting through floor to ceiling windows, and full wheelchair accessibility.
“This spectacular facility expansion now offers more of a multi-purpose experience for patrons by enabling new program opportunities, added services, and more diverse and adaptable spaces suiting all ages,” said Councillor Linda Hepner, Chair of the Parks, Recreation and Sport Tourism Committee.
To help kick-off the re-opening of the centre, a community celebration was held featuring family activities and entertainment, a ribbon cutting, live music, community displays, program demonstrations, and fun for all ages.
