The City of Surrey has been named the best place in Western Canada to invest in real estate, according to a new report published by Western Investor Magazine.

“Our city is full of opportunity and this latest report demonstrates that businesses, investors and residents have confidence in Surrey. We are building a city from the ground up and creating stronger, more dynamic communities. We have one of the lowest tax rates in the country and our unique programs and innovative policies are reinforcing our position as one of the best cities in the country in which to live and do business,” says Mayor Dianne Watts.

According to the company, Surrey took the top award because the City has implemented innovative incentive programs for investors, initiatives to cut red tape, and is creating a new City Centre which has resulted in a number of large private and public real estate projects being built in the area.

“We are positioning our city for prosperity and job creation by improving business processes, moving forward with our aggressive economic policies and fostering a strong investment climate,” says Councillor Linda Hepner, Chair of the Red Tape Reduction Committee.

The City of Surrey has received similar accolades from the Real Estate Investment Network, who has repeatedly named Surrey the best place in B.C. to invest and ranked the city fourth on the list of top Canadian investment cities in 2010.
