The Surrey Emergency Program is comprised of Emergency Social Services (ESS), Surrey Emergency Program Amateur Radio (SEPAR) and Surrey Search and Rescue.
The City of Surrey’s ESS Program volunteers are compassionate individuals trained and ready to respond to the needs of people affected by an emergency. Volunteers work as a team with City staff and are committed to providing essential services and supplies such as shelter, food, clothing, comfort, and support within a reception centre setting. Our ESS volunteers take part in practice exercise and are provided with an orientation and training to be prepared once a disaster occurs. Reception Centers are located in Guildford/Fraser Heights, Fleetwood, Cloverdale, Whalley, Newton and South Surrey.
Surrey Emergency Program Amateur Radio (SEPAR) volunteers are trained radio operators willing to take direction and help out when needed in an event. The organization falls under the direction and guidance of the Surrey Emergency Program.SEPAR members would be called out at the request of the Emergency Coordinator or the Provincial Emergency Program (PEP). Volunteer callout is done in a number of ways including paging, telephone and, of course, Amateur Radio. For more information or to volunteer, please contact Jocelyne Colbert at 604-543-6795.
The Surrey Search and Rescue Team is a registered non-profit society devoted to assisting in the recovery of missing persons primarily in South West British Columbia, in all conditions and in all types of weather. The collection and distribution of information concerning emergency preparedness in the event of natural disasters is also one of our functions.
