New Volunteers

Thinking about Joining our Volunteer Team?

1. How old do I need to be to volunteer with Surrey Parks, Recreation & Culture?

Most volunteer positions within the City of Surrey require people to be 14 years of age.

2. Do I have to be a City of Surrey resident to volunteer?

No, you do not have to be a City of Surrey resident to volunteer. However some positions require volunteers on Work or Study Permits to complete an RCMP Criminal Record Check, obtain a Criminal Record Check from their home country and provide proof that their permit allows them to volunteer.

3. I’ve submitted my criminal record check a few weeks ago and haven’t heard anything back yet?

The criminal record check process can take up to3 weeks during high volume periods. If 3 weeks have passed and you haven’t heard from us, please call or email Volunteer Resources for follow up.

4. I’ve completed all the steps in the application, how come I can’t see any shifts?

While you’ve completed all the steps, it can take up to 3 weeks from the time your criminal record check was submitted. References typically take 1 week to process, and then your entire application package needs to be reviewed.

5. I said that I was available, why haven’t I been scheduled yet?

While you have signed up for a shift, your application form was not yet approved. Volunteers will not be scheduled for shifts until they are successful in the application process. You will receive notification when this is complete.

6. How long does the application process take?

You can complete the application process at your own pace. Depending on when you submit your references and criminal record check, as well as the interview date you sign up for, it may take 3 weeks from the time you submit your criminal record check.
